Megan Mills is from Nixa, Missouri. She went to the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) and was a cross country and track athlete while she was there. She got her Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education while also becoming certified in Early Childhood Education. She is currently in graduate school at UMKC working on her master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction. She has previously taught preschool and kindergarten in a split classroom and this year will be her second year teaching. She was previously at Academy for Integrated Arts, learning there as a student teacher, a teacher's assistant while in graduate school, and then spent her first year as a classroom teacher there.
What she is most looking forward to this upcoming school year at Gordon Parks Elementary is getting to know and build relationships with new kids and families. She is excited to be a part of such a positive school community that ensures that all students are meeting their highest potential. When she toured Gordon Parks, she fell in love with the climate of the staff and students. Megan could feel a very calm and collaborative atmosphere from being there for only a few hours. Additionally, the responsiveness that teachers have to students, their priority to be trauma sensitive trained, and their co-teaching model is what drove her to picking Gordon Parks as a new school to be a part of.
